Virus Infected Emails Not from CM/ECF
The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AOUSC) has received reports that some CM/ECF servers are sending viruses to law firms that use the CM/ECF system. A listserver used by bankruptcy attorneys has distributed many messages addressing this perceived problem. From the sample e-mails the AOUSC has collected, it appears that the reports are incorrect. Although, the '....uscourts.gov' e-mail addresses appear in the e-mail headers, the Judiciary is neither sending nor forwarding these messages. It appears that a KLEZ type worm has infected one or more PCs outside the Judiciary and is sending out e-mails that appear to be sent from the courts. The AOUSC is continuing to investigate this issue.
